Position Summary:
The primary functions are to perform technical activities in the laboratory related to tests on human specimens and to record laboratory data while working under the technical oversight of a California-licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
Essential Job Duties:
• Assists in specimen testing under direct and constant supervision according to established procedures, working under the technical oversight of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist and in compliance with CA regulatory restrictions. Uses automated and/or digital devices such as timers or thermometers in performing tasks.
• Records dates of receipt, in use, and expiration for all reagents, kits, controls, and standards used for assigned assays. Ensures material used is not expired prior to use.
• Pipettes using pre-set devices, calibrated and approved automatic devices or fixed volume dispensers.
• Performs, under direct supervision, preventative maintenance (PM) on equipment, documents PM appropriately, makes minor repairs and immediately contacts appropriate personnel for problems requiring more complex repairs.
• Develops an ever-increasing understanding of laboratory medicine and the clinical significance of laboratory results.
• Adheres to the standard operating procedures and safety requirements of Esoterix, CLIA, CAP and other regulatory bodies.
• Documents all activities as necessary using good documentation practices (Examples include preventative maintenance logs, instrument function checks, troubleshooting, and quality control) to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Follows any other job-related instructions and performs any other job related duties requested by department management.
Required Education/Degree:
Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology or related fields of science from an accredited institution which includes a minimum 12 semester hours of chemistry preferably including at least one course of organic chemistry.
